The huge effort to have the car repaired, prepared and transported with crew etc all the way to the west coast has paid of for the Canberra Team. After being damaged at the Mount Buller Sprint, the white Evolution VIII needed some serious repairs, with the help of sponsors and friends the car just made it to Perth in time for the start of the inaugural WA Dutton Rally.
But all did not go to plan, Stage one day one the clutch failed in the VIII. With some help from a local Rally workshop that prepare and crew some very quick Subaru's and Mitsubishi's the car was repaired and swiftly back in the battle.
Simon and Martin clawed there way back from last place on Friday all the way the way to 1st place by rally end on Sunday afternoon. Along the way Simon took a total of seven outright stage wins, almost a third of the total stages run over the weekend. |
